Traveler Research Lab

Opening soon: deeper notes on the gear we list — what we looked at, where the information came from, and what we could not confirm. It will be a registered area of the site; this page explains how the research works in the meantime.

How the research works

Four plain principles

Written for travellers, not analysts.

  1. 01

    Start from the trip

Every look at a product begins with the journey it is for — a road trip, life in a van, travelling with a pet, or a night outdoors — and the problem it is meant to solve there.

  2. 02

    Gather what can be checked

Manufacturer specifications, materials, sizes and weights, warranty and return terms, and what customers have reported publicly.

  3. 03

    Say where the evidence stops

If something could not be confirmed, the note says so plainly instead of filling the gap with a guess.

  4. 04

Explain the reasoning, not the machinery

You will see why a product suits a kind of trip, in plain language. We do not publish internal scoring methods.
